I Still Update... Sometimes!

Ok.. I know it has been over a month since my last post but hey I've been busy and this blog thing dosn't pay the bills. As you can tell from the photo i am in Orlando for the Capital One Bowl game between Arkansas and Wisconsin. I have been here since Wednesday and I have worked about 12+ hours each day. The photo is from Wednesday and eventhough it looks like I am enjoying the Magic Kingdom I am really walking back to the car following a long day of work.
Well I am beat so this is going to be a short entry. I will try to update again over the weekend so stay tuned.

Happy Turkey Day!

Happy Thanksgiving to all who read my blog.

This is a photo I shot for a food front that ran today. The story is about football on T.V., turkey and L-Tryptophan. I shot the photo in my livingroom and used my neighbor as a model. I really think it gives the feeling of someone passed out in front of the tube following a big turkey dinner.
You can read the story by clicking here if you like.

Enjoy!

More Hog Fans and College Gameday Too!

ESPN's College Gameday came to Fayetteville this week and the local Hog fans went nuts.

Sure this guy showed up 76 hours before kickoff but what is really pricless is the fact his sign is so big no one behind him can see the game.

I have no problem with this sign. D-Mac is the best running back college football. If I were Chuck Norris I would fear him.

I love you too!

Fear This!

And of Course the Gameday Gang.

Corso

Herbstreit

And Fowler.

Welcome Home!

I know this blog is my life away from work but Tuesday I went to Ft. Sill Oklahoma for work. I was lucky enough to document some soldiers returning from Iraq to their families after their deployment. To me this is a classic coming home photo.

21 members of his family showed up to welcome him home. Here they are.

Another family.

This soldier and his son were very cute.

It was a long day but in the end it was worth it.

38-3

The Arkansas Razorbacks beat the Ole Miss Rebels in Fayetteville on Saturday and the fans went HogWild!

This seems like a huge win until you look at the Rebels record. They are pretty bad. they are 2-6 after yesterdays loss to the Hogs.

Thank god Ole Miss's record didn't stop this fan from Hogging out.

War Eagle

Here is a photo of the War Eagle Bridge and Mill in War Eagle AR.

Today marks the begining of the 54th Annual War Eagle Arts and Craft Show. If you have never been to War Eagle and you enjoy arts and crafts then a visit this weekend is a must do. If you are like me and really couldn't care less about this kind of thing you should visit this spot at any other time of the year. The mill pictured here is open year round. It sells all kinds of stone ground breads and grains and it is a nice spot to visit and spend an afternoon.

Explorers!

Today after work my roommate and I went exploring some land and a cabin near White Rock in the National Forest. It was pretty cool. The cabin was nothing special but the area was pretty nice.
Here is a photo of us crossing the creek on the property in a Toyota Land Cruiser.
Enjoy.

Blues Bound!!!

Early tommarrow morning I am off to the 21st Annual Arkansas Blues and Heritage Festival in Helena AR.

Here is a photo of Robert Lockwood performing during the 19th Annual King Biscuit Blues Festival in 2004.

The Arkansas Blues and Heritage Featival and the King Biscuit Blues Festival are the same event. The festival kept the KBBF name for its first 19 years but last year, on the 20th anniversary of the non-profit event, organizers were forced to change the name.

Eddie Armstrong, a life-long Helena resident, told me he has attened every festival from the begining.

Mr. Armstrong sat in his chair in front of the Delta Cultural Center all day that day.

In addition to the scheduled artists many street musicans perform during the festival. Some of the best music is heard on the street.

This is Willie Jones of Eureka Springs playing his 1936 National Steel Guitar in the rain on Cherry Street in downtown Helena.
Willie really rocked out on this guitar. I think I listened and photographed him for about 45 minutes or so. My friends finaly dragged me away to go see someone else perform.

Well I have said too much and I need to pack and run to the store before I leave so I will post again when I return from the 21st Annual Arkansas Blues and Heritage Festival Sunday evening or Monday.

Meet Mr. Boscoe Dogg

Boscoe is my dog.

I took the photo above on Boscoe's eighth birthday, December 16, 2005. I treat Boscoe like my son. He has his own bed, watches TT.V., vacations and has dog friends over for parties and sleep-overs. He also has an e-mail address, gets junk-mail and tele-marketers call him from time to time. Boscoe may also be a winner in this year's Publisher's Clearing House Sweepstakes, so keep your fingers crossed and wish him luck.
As Boscoe approaches nine years old he is showing his age. This summer on Memorial day he banged his knee as he jumped into my car for a ride. The rest of the weekend Boscoe performed a flawless three-legged-dog impersonation. Tuesday after the long weekend we went to our vet and got a Cortisone shot. All was fine until a few weeks ago.
The summer came and went and a couple of weeks ago Boscoe began his "Peg-Leg Pete" act again. First I thought he was just sore from a walk or too much playing in the yard but after a week of limping around the house we went to see the vet.
This time our vet felt Boscoe was experiencing arthritis and probably needed some x-rays to confirm his diagnoses.
Well today Boscoe got x-rayed.
This is my dogs rear end.

According to this x-ray Boscoe has "bilateral hip dysplasia with severe degenerative joint disease.

Here are Boscoe's rear legs.

The vet says this x-ray shows "severe arthritis in the left hock."

So what does all this mean? It means I hope Boscoe has really won the grand prize in that sweepstakes notice he got because treatment may be expensive. I think we are going to lose some weight, swim more to help keep his joints loose and try some medications.
I have been giving him Rymidyl for the last week but I think we may try something else.
My vet suggested Adequan.

This if from a web-site pushing the drug "...Adequan: A Near-Miracle for Dogs with Arthritis... Is your dog slowing down as he gets older? Does she hesitate before jumping in the car, on the bed, or going up the stairs? Is he dragging himself up from a reclining position with his shoulders instead of springing up with his hindquarters?... The canine drugs known as Rimadyl, Etogesic, Metacam, and Deramaxx. Like all NSAIDs, including the human ones, they have a long list of potential side effects, include vomiting, bloody diarrhea, kidney and liver damage, and even death..."

I don't like those side effect, especially the DEATH one.

The copy continues "...Adequan is an injectable substance known as a "polysulfated glycosaminoglycan," and is very similar to... glucosamine. Adequan has been proven to be preferentially taken up by inflamed joints when injected into the dog's muscles. It soothes and lubricates the joint, naturally reducing inflammation and pain by reducing friction. Even better, instead of just masking pain as NSAIDs do, it actually helps to rebuild cartilage in the damaged joint. It's not just pain control, it's therapy."

Sounds Great!!!!
I am going away for the weekend and I may get a second opinion because this Adequan stuff is expensive, but I think Boscoe and I will begin his "therapy" next week.

Well I've written too much for one entry and I've run out of things to say but I will give Boscoe Dogg updates as they are warranted.

The Best Mom in the World!!!!

Here is a picture of me and my mom we took using the iSight camera built into her new MacBook Pro.

My mom is a woman who will be listed in the annals of history next to Golda Meir, Mother Teresa, Hillary Rodham Clinton, Margret Mead, Selma Resnick, Susan B. Anthony, Clara Barton and Florence Nightingale, to name a few.
The MacBook Pro is her first Mac and she has yet to see the light. I think that all these years of using a pc has beaten her down and she is reluctant to accept the Mac as the one true computing platform and answer to all of her technology problems. I am sure with my expert guidance she will learn to love the new Mac along with HDTV, TIVO, DVDs, Caller ID, GPS, Smart House Technology, Home Theater Surround Sound and Night Vision.

A Blog Reborn

I have decided to re-start my blog after losing interest in it a few months ago. Here is a photo of Walter "Wolfman" Washington from the 2005 Arkansas Blues and Heritage Festival in Helena, AR, to get things started.
Walter was awesome that night in Helena.
I met him briefly at the DBA bar in New Orleans last February. I told my friend who lives down there about this photo and the meeting. My friend told me he knew Walter and would give him a copy of the photo if I sent one. I decided to send Water a few nice prints from this concert and he autographed one back to me.
The 2006 Arkansas Blues and Heritage Festival is coming up in just about three weeks. I am counting the days until I leave home for the trip to the Delta.
